Elisabeth Skinner

The late Western Massachusetts native was the daughter of local silk magnate Joseph Allen Skinner commissioned Donald Ross to build a golf course for her use during an era when accessibility was limited for young women; the 1922 design became Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley; became an accomplished golfer, winning the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts’ Endicott Cup in 1930 and ’31; held course record of 74 for more than 40 years; passed away in 1987, at age 96.
