Max Mierzwa
Chicopee resident, 86, was one of region’s most revered superintendents during 51-year career in Western Massachusetts; began work during late 1940’s at private Springfield Country Club; took over same role at Chicopee Country Club, working there from 1967 until his retirement in 1997; first worked under Paul Bigos, as well as Charlie Keefe and Larry Graham, at SCC; first took up game there, and was head man at SCC from 1955-66; humble, hard-working superintendent; spent 3½ years, including duty in the South Pacific, with U.S. Marines; married to wife Ann (Sypek) for 60 years, with son Peter, daughter Carol and two grandchildren.
