Regarded by many to be on short list of best golfers to ever come out of region; called Holyoke Country Club home when not playing national caliber tournaments; PGA Golf Professional Hall of Famer, was its national Golf Professional of the Year in 1976; among notable victories was California Open; played in four major championships, including a tie for 47th at 1972 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach; sponsored on PGA Tour by Lawrence Welk during early 1970’s; runner-up to Sam Snead at 1971 PGA Professional National Championship; sergeant with U.S. Marines during Koran War; died of cancer in 1976 at age 42.
